ISPS regulation

The ISPS regulation (The International Ship and Port Facilities Security Code) was adopted by the IMO on 12 December 2002. Its aim is to protect vessels in international traffic, including their crews and passengers, against terrorist attacks.

The security regulations and measures apply to vessels in international traffic weighing more than 500 tonnes gross, and to harbours that receive such vessels. Harbour terminals that receive vessels in international traffic must be ISPS-approved. This requires being controlled, restricted and enclosed.

The following general guidelines apply to Risavika Harbour:
•All those accessing the ISPS terminal must display an approved access card and use high-visibility clothing.
•Operators in the harbour terminal must organise security clearance for their customers and visitors.
•The areas covered by ISPS are generally closed to the public.

Please see the Regulation on the safeguarding of harbours and harbour terminals against terrorist attacks etc. FOR 2007-07-03 no. 825 for further information on ISPS.
